Qui sommes-nous ?
La Fondation Blachère dédiée à la scène contemporaine africaine est la fondation de l’entreprise familiale Blachère IIlumination.
Véritable pôle de référence, reconnue internationalement, elle constitue la première Fondation d’art contemporain qui depuis 2004 œuvre en permanence pour favoriser la diffusion et la promotion de l’art contemporain d’Afrique.
Elle organise deux expositions par an, afin de permettre au public d’aller à la rencontre des œuvres des nombreux artistes qu’elle accueille chaque année en résidence, tant en Afrique à Ngaparou (Sénégal) qu’en Europe dans ses locaux à Bonnieux (France).
Elle a également à sa charge la conservation de la collection Blachère aujourd’hui constituée de près de 2000 œuvres issues d’une programmation riche et pluridisciplinaire.
Sa boutique d’artisanat offre un territoire d’expression à près de 150 artisans et designers en Afrique.

Son histoire
La Fondation Blachère est la fondation de l’entreprise Blachère Illumination, créée en 2003 par Jean-Paul Blachère, le président fondateur et ancien directeur de l’entreprise Blachère Illumination.
Entre le design élaboré des illuminations et l’art il n’y avait finalement plus qu’un pas à faire.
Pour l’Afrique, c’est un tout autre cheminement dont les premiers pas se font dans les nombreux voyages sur le continent comme explorateur et mécène pour des causes humanitaires.
En 2000, après la découverte d’une rétrospective sur l’art contemporain d’Afrique à Lille, l’engagement de mécénat de Jean Paul Blachère se concrétise en direction des artistes. Une loi promulguée le 1er août 2003 ouvre de nouvelles perspectives aux Fondations d’entreprise, et permet à l’entreprise Blachère illumination de créer sa Fondation dès 2003.
Un an après sa création, le centre d’art est inauguré dans la zone industrielle des Bourguignons, qui abrite déjà l’entreprise Blachère Illumination.
Plus de 48 expositions verront le jour dans notre centre d’art et plus de 450 artistes sont accueillis en résidence à Apt et Ngaparou.
En 2023, 20 ans plus tard, sous l’impulsion de sa directrice Christine Allain-Launay Blachère, la Fondation déménage et quitte sa zone industrielle pour s’installer à l’ancienne gare de Bonnieux en plein cœur du Parc Régional du Luberon.
En déménageant, l’institution privée prend un nouveau souffle et en profite pour se réinventer, tout en demeurant fidèle à ses valeurs éthiques et esthétiques. Rien n’a changé, et tout a changé si ce n’est une inscription plus forte et pérenne dans la scène artistique contemporaine. La Fondation sera plus que jamais novatrice et inclusive, enchaînant résidences de création, expositions personnelles et collectives, tout en enrichissant ses cycles de rencontres à travers les nouveaux espaces désormais à sa disposition tels que le centre de documentation et les ateliers d’artiste.
The Blachère Foundation dedicated to the African contemporary art scene is sponsored by the family business Blachère IIlumination.
An internationally recognised centre of reference, it is the first contemporary art foundation which, since 2004, has been working continuously to encourage the dissemination and promotion of contemporary African art.
It organises two exhibitions per year, giving the public the chance to discover the work of the many artists it welcomes each year on residences, both in Africa in Ngaparou (Senegal) and in Europe in Bonnieux (France).
It is also responsible for the conservation of the Blachère collection, which today consists of nearly 2,000 works with a rich and multidisciplinary programme.
Its craft shop offers a wide choice of works by nearly 150 designers and artisans from Africa.
History
The Blachère Foundation is the foundation of the company Blachère Illumination, created in 2003 by Jean-Paul Blachère, the founder and former director of Blachère Illumination.
In the end, there was only one step to take between the elaborate design of the illuminations and the Art.
For Africa, it was a different story with, the first steps being taken in the numerous trips to the continent as explorer and patron of humanitarian causes.
In 2000, following the discovery of a retrospective on contemporary African art in Lille, Jean Paul Blachère’s commitment to the patronage of artists took concrete form. A law promulgated on 1st August 2003 opened up new perspectives for corporate foundations, and enabled Blachère Illumination to create its own foundation in 2003.
One year after its creation, the art centre was inaugurated in the Bourguignons industrial zone, which already housed the Blachère Illumination company.
More than 48 exhibitions took place in our art centre and more than 450 artists were invited to residences in Apt and Ngaparou.
In 2023, 20 years later, under the impetus of its present director Christine Allain-Launay Blachère, the foundation moved from the industrial zone in Apt to the former Bonnieux train station in the heart of the Luberon Regional Park.
By relocating, the private institution is getting a new lease on life and taking the opportunity to reinvent itself, while remaining true to its ethical and aesthetic values. Nothing has changed, yet including a stronger and more enduring presence in the contemporary art scene. The Foundation will be more innovative and inclusive than ever, with a series of creative residencies, solo and group exhibitions, while enriching the experiences through the new spaces now at its disposal, such as the documentation centre and the artist’s studios.
Blachère illumination
La société Blachère est le leader européen des illuminations festives en milieu urbain. Cette PME familiale, dont le siège social est à Apt en Provence, et qui s’appuie sur une vingtaine de filiales, a fêté ses quarante ans en 2013.
Son activité créative – elle a notamment inventé l’architecture du fil lumière à l’exposition universelle de Séville en 1992 – la rapproche des artistes et des designers.
Blachère Illumination agit aussi dans les domaines de l’humanitaire et du développement durable.
Blachere Illumination
Blachère company is the European leader of the festive illuminations in urban zones. This family SME, whose head office belongs to Apt in Provence, and which leans on about twenty subsidiaries, celebrated its forty years anniversary in 2013.
Its creative activity – it invented in particular the architecture of the thread light in the Seville World Fair in 1992 – moves it closer to artists and designers.
Blachère Illumination also acts in the domains of humanitarianism and sustainable development.
